Door Hinges

Like many other types of hardware, door hinges are subject to wear and tear over time. Whether the hinges in your home are due for replacement or need to be upgraded, we have all your needs covered in our selection of door hinges at HardwareSource. Shop online from our inventory today to find the perfect set of hinges for any full-size door in your home.

Spring Door Hinges

Spring hinges, otherwise known as self-closing or spring-loaded hinges, come fitted with a spring and are designed to close doors automatically. We offer five different spring hinge varieties to choose from, including:

  • Concealed Barrel: Concealed barrel hinges are ideal for light-duty applications, such as cabinet and chest installations. All concealed barrel hinges are named for the two barrel pins recessed into the edge of the door and the frame. The jointed connection between the pins pivots, allowing the door to easily open and close.
  • Spring Butt: Spring butt hinges are the most common style of hinges used on entry doors, passage doors, and even cabinet doors. All spring butt hinges consist of two leaf plates that anchor to the edge of the door and the door jamb. The leaf plates come together, only to be hidden between the door and the frame whenever the door is closed.
  • Half-Surface Spring: We offer half-surface spring hinges in various styles, including half-surface screen door spring hinges in oil-rubbed bronze, polished brass, satin nickel, or zinc-plated finishes.
  • Surface Mount Spring: Surface mount spring hinges install without needing a mortise cut into the door or the frame. All surface-mounted hinges have one leaf that secures to the door and another that secures to the frame.
  • Invisible Spring: Invisible spring hinges are completely invisible from either side of the door when the door is closed.

Other Types of Door Hinge Hardware

In addition to our extensive selection of spring hinges, we offer several other popular categories of full-size door hinges, including:

  • Pivot hinges: Pivot hinges allow a full-size door to rotate on a single pivot point and swing smoothly and evenly while creating a streamlined appearance with a frameless view. These hinges often work well for heavier doors or designs requiring specialized installations.
  • Wide throw and swing clear hinges: Wide throw hinges enhance the door's swing arc, allowing it to swing clear of obstacles like thick walls, deep jambs, baseboards, or applied door mouldings. Swing clear hinges feature a unique design that creates a wide clearance space for large equipment or wheelchairs when the door is fully opened.
  • Special-purpose hinges: HardwareSource offers various special-purpose door hinges to meet all your needs, including raised barrel hinges, half-surface hinges, surface-mounted pivot hinges, and more.

Choosing a Door Hinge

Before you decide what type of hinge you want to buy, you must determine what size you need. Start by measuring the hinge from top to bottom and then from side to side.

You should also determine whether the existing hinge is a square or radius corner. For radius corners — also called round corners — a ¼-inch radius will match the curvature of a dime, while a 5/8-inch radius will match the curvature of a nickel.

We also offer combination hinges featuring both squared and radius corners for specialty doors.

Hinges come in many sizes and styles. Installation methods vary and are dependent on the desired application. Heavy doors over 150 pounds typically call for pivot hinges, which we have in stock rated from 250 to 1,000 pounds.

You should also consider the number of recommended hinges per door. Most doors under 60 inches in height typically need two hinges, while doors over 109 inches often require up to six. Browse our full-size door hinge selection guide to learn more.

Available Materials and Finishes

Although door hinge materials are typically associated with visual appeal and the way they complement their surroundings, they also play other essential roles. The choice of material for hinges can impact their strength, stability, and resistance to wear and tear. Some materials are stronger than others, while certain metals are better able to resist corrosion in areas with high moisture or humidity levels.

Selecting a suitable material requires consideration of the door's weight, usage, and environmental conditions. We supply hinges made with aluminum, brass, bronze, steel, stainless steel, or plastic and in various finishes. With so many hinge styles to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect solution!
