2 Questions asked about Steel Heavy Duty Ball Bearing Hinge, 8" x 8"

Q Christopher Curtis • 02/16/2018, 9:33:46 AM Looking to make a bookshelf that is 4' wide x 29' tall that needs to swing open. Total weight will be approx 2000lbs. Pl;ease recommend the appropriate hinge. I was looking at Heavy Duty Steel Ball Bearing Hinge, 8" x 8" on your site. Thank you
A 02/17/2018, 12:18:59 PM Hi Christopher, If your bookcase will weight 2000lbs loaded, then nothing we stock will work for your application. But, this is what we suggest for lighter weight built in bookcase applications: Here is the best way to do this. I am sending you two links, one to a wood working forum where they have a diagram of how to do this and the other to our pivot hinge section. The key is designing the door so it does not bind with the frame. The link to our site shows our Center Hung pivot hinges and you pick the one you need by determining how heavy your door or bookcase is going to be (fully loaded) link to diagram http://www.garymkatz.com/ChartsDrawings/pivot_bookcase.html link to our hinges (you want the floor mounted center hung pivots) https://www.hardwaresource.com/door/door-hinges/pivot-hinges.html?hs_action=1449
Q Angela Jerome • 08/21/2018, 4:13:40 PM Will this material rust? I live close to the ocean and im Looking for materials that will not rust under oceanic conditions
A 08/22/2018, 9:08:09 AM It is just steel based, so it will corrode somewhat quickly near the coast. I do not have any 8X8's in any other material though unfortunately.
