the 2" x 1 " narrow but hinge - is that the open dimension? In other words is the closed dimabout 2" x 1/2 "?

That is correct! The listed width is of the hinge in the open position.

we bought an antique cabinet that has a one inch wide and two inch long brass hinge, that is busted. looks like this picture, which dimension is first, the length or the width? thanks

It is the Height (Length) by the Width (Open Width as seen in the photo).

Hi Roberto! Screw hole spacing top-to-bottom is 1" and left-to-right across is about 0.57".
